Artist's Statement:

The piney woods, lakes, pastures and big skies of East Texas offer endless possibilities for landscape painting. My artistic process starts with the direct observation of nature. I paint small paintings in oils and watercolors to learn the forms, colors and contours of the East Texas landscape. The lessons learned from painting the small paintings by direct observation are the basis for the larger studio paintings. The large paintings are abstractions, transformations and amalgamations of East Texas imagery painted with sumptuous oil colors on Belgian linen. They are are meant to invoke a sense of light and space and tell a story about the the mythology of place.
