Richly painted oils blending fluidly into landscape forms, steeped in tradition, yet reaching for new forms of plastic expression, the landscape paintings of Robert A. Dye combine the careful study of the geometry of nature with the painterly playfulness of abstract expressionism. Light filled and expansive, Dye's paintings reach out to the viewer, illuminating the space around them and pulling the viewer in with swirls of impasto splashed against subtle glazes of radiant color.
After studying classical painting techniques at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, PA, Robert taught painting, drawing and art history at several Philadelphia area art schools in addition to spending countless hours painting plein air in the Pine Barrens of Southern New Jersey. Since coming to Texas, Robert has expanded his vision of the intimate landscape of the East Coast, to the wide-open vistas of Texas. His paintings straddle the line between landscape and abstract imagery, evoking a Turneresque sense of light and space combined with energetic brush strokes and a sensually complex paint surface.
