Robert A. Dye’s paintings combine elements of plein air landscape painting with abstract expressionism and painterly realism to create light-filled landscape imagery emphasizing the plastic qualities of oil paint. The sensual and evocative paintings are of human scale, richly textured and colored, incorporating divine geometric compositional arrangements. Themes emphasize both the symmetrical and nonsymmetrical reflective compositions associated with water-filled landscapes. Often horizon lines dissolve, intentionally blurring the distinction between landscapes and purely abstract imagery. Dye’s purposely ambiguous sense of scale in landscape imagery invites multiple interpretations, inviting the viewer to appreciate the work at many different levels.
